Your Guide to Healthy Eating

According to Ayurveda, digestion and proper nutrition reflect the core
foundation of health and well-being. When you digest food properly, you are able to keep the doshas in balance.  Over time, this could help alleviate many symptoms associated with stress.  All foods contain different energetic qualities that affect your state of being.
Taking time each day to be present with your meals will accentuate your health and well-being.

1. Cook foods with love and enjoy the experience.

Play uplifting or relaxing music in the background and absorb the sensory experience. Smell the fragrant spices, celebrate the colors, feel the textures of different ingredients. If you do not prefer to cook yourself, make preparations to receive your meal in a state of relaxation.

2. Before eating, find a quiet space away from your other responsibilities.

Take a few deep breaths in order to clear space for your meal. You may also give a simple thanks to the hands that created the meal and the earth that provided such delicious food.

3. Chew food slowly and thoroughly.

Aim to chew your food completely, taking the time to savor the experience. Make this experience meditative, focusing the process of digestion that begins in your mouth.

4. Avoid overeating.

Consume a portion equal to two handfuls for every meal. Eating the right amount will help your digestion tremendously. Paying attention to your portions will help alleviate gas, bloating, sleepiness and lethargy after meals.

4. Drink a small amount of room temperature water with every meal.

Ice water dampens the digestive fire, leading to incomplete digestion and other uncomfortable digestive issues. Drinking half a cup of room
temperature water with every meal helps process the food more easily.
If you are eating watery foods like soups or stews, this rule does not apply.
